Ribbon Cutting - Greer CPW Compressed Natural Gas Fill Station
Location:
Greer Commission of Public Works Compressed Natural Gas Fast Fill Station
115 Duke Street in Greer.
Date: Friday, March 22nd from 11-12:30 pm.
Lunch will be served during the Grand Opening Celebration.
This is the first public natural gas fueling station in the City of Greer and surrounding area. The station will be open 24 hours a day to the public, using a credit card for payment. Greer CPW currently operates three CNG vehicles with two additional vehicles scheduled for operation by the end of the second quarter.
The CNG facility is a “fast fill” station that is designed to fill a standard vehicle in the same amount of time as aregular gasoline station. Filling an empty tank typically requires 3 to 4 minutes to completely fill your tank. While the time it takes to fill your tank is similar to that of a gasoline tank, the cost is anything but similar. At the time of this press release, gasoline in South Carolina is averaging $3.50 per gallon. The gas gallon equivalent or GGE of natural is only $1.80. This is a significant cost reduction that will ultimately reduce the operating budget, potentially result in savings to their customers, and reduce our dependency on foreign oil.
While it is true that CNG powered vehicles cost more upfront, there are several state and federal incentives to help offset some of the upfront costs. These include tax deductions/credits, reduced license fees, reduced vehicle sales taxes, and lower registration fees.
We encourage all to come celebrate and support the Commission of Public Works as they cut theirribbon on their new CNG Fast Fill Station! You can call (864) 848-5505 to RSVP.
